Also what would happen to the contract if you decided to sell the house? Presumably it would pass to the new owners, but PV can add a lot of value to a house (I think more than they are worth at least) would this go to you or the energy company?

It's an interesting question, must lead all active people to the same answer, as the question is an inspiration at the same time.
I believe you'd get much less of these answers, if there isn't the info about PP and investments costs, which a sensible company would not provide to the house owner!
Check some articles about the disaster happening to the Czech Republic and its electricity prices due to screwed up support of PVs!!! Super useful lesson, unfortunately we'll pay for it 20 years by about 13% higher end-user prices of electricity. All in all, subsidies are a double-sided blade! Can serve well, but...those politicians, etc.
